I once saw a tutorial on Adobe After Effects where
they simulated a “crowd sign” effect upon a clip of
a crowd at a football game. The effect looked like
those coordinated signs where each spectator holds one
card and all of the cards spell something.

I’m not sure if it was a CD based tutorial, or a web-based tutorial.

Also, I’m not positive, but I think that the tutorial was demonstrating the “Card-Wipe” or the “Card-Dance” Plug-ins.

Does anyone know where to find or buy this tutorial?

    Thanks,

    -Mike-

IT’s a Card Wipe tutorial done up by Total Training. Not too sure if you can still get it online. Essentially, you’ll need to create a grid of people. You can create the grid in Photoshop or in AE (using Particle Playground’s GRID option) with a single person (still or movie will do just fine) as a Layer Map.

Then apply card dance and ensure that the number of cards setting is identical to that for the grid. Then animate either the x or y-zxis. You may want to add some jitter to add realism.

I suggest that you start with a small number of people – 4 – 8 and finetune the technique before embarking on a full-blown exercise.

I found it. I got Total Training’s Adobe After Effects 6.5 DVD’s. I just thought the tutorial was much older than these training DVD’s.

Anyway, it works just like you described it. Thanks again!
