I work full time at a post house, but for my home editing office, I’ve been using generic GTech drives. I currently own three 2TB GTechs for a total of 6 TB, but I am finally ready to invest in some serious storage, both for capacity reasons and peace of mind should one of the drives crash.

I want to buy an external RAID and build a drive with RAID 5 protection. Promise Pegasus gets amazing reviews, but I think that USB 3.0 would be more than enough for me. I work on a late 2012 27″ iMac, and am currently considering a OWC Mercury Pro Qx2 with 4 4TB drives, for a total of 16TB.

Mercury, however, is the only real brand of those enclosures that I am familiar with, so I am curious with other people’s experiences with Mercury, or other enclosures.

Any and all thoughts are appreciated. Thanks!
