  • Looking for feedback on lighting setup

    Hello,

For the past couple years I’ve been teaching myself cinematography and since I am not enrolled in school or have a mentor to go to, I am seeking feedback here on the variations of the lighting setup I did for a shot.

Ignoring my acting, how does it look in lighting design and depth of field? Does this meet professional cinematic standards?

    Thanks,

You are teaching yourself well. Of course there is no one answer since the “right” lighting depends on the story. You imply a tough bar scene, so a film noire look probably works very well. Most of these variations have too much warm fill light for my tastes. A very light bounce of the bluish key into the shadow side would be my preference, or, no fill at all as in one of your versions.

Thank you Rick for the compliment and feedback. Looking again at the shots, I see exactly what you mean and I agree, shot 02 has the least lighting and looks the best to me. Great idea with using a bounce fill in my shadow side. Will have to try that next.

    Best,
