Only good deals are the refurb units on Apple’s site.

Apple controls all pricing for their machines. The only “deals” you can get is the occasional free RAM or printer that come with a purchase.

I personally like the Refurb deals and have ordered four Macs that way.

I second the refurbs. The two other options are if 1, someone in your family is a student or teacher or 2, you or someone in your family or a very close friend is an ADC Select or Premier Member (Apple Developer Connection).

The other key is, never order and RAM or hard drive upgrades with your system, get them somewhere else.

I’ve ordered a couple reburbs and have no problem is I get what I need.

Also getting the middle of the line verses top end makes sense. People talk about computers becoming obsolete but there are still a lot of people editing on G4s.

EDIT – refurbs (don’t even want to think about reburbs)

We have a new Mac Pro 8-core refurb from the Apple site. It came with an ATI X1900 card instead of the 7300GT card advertised. 🙂

I would also note, if you can hook up with an Apple Business Service Agent, there are discount coupons which can knock the Apple refurb price approx 5% lower.

I used one of the $2999 coupons for the 8-core I just bought.

One additional suggestion… Use the $$$ saved at the Apple refurb site to buy a 3 year AppleCare Warranty, just in case.
