I would like to create the effect that you sometimes see where a camera appears to be pointed at video on a TV screen (like an older tube television) and then fades into an HD version of that video. Is there any way to create that inside of Avid MC? (Version 8.4)

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Well, Sapphire has TVDamage, just have that show the scanlines, and then transition to a clip without them. BCC has DAMAGED_TV. Same sort of damage options.

Nothing built in that I know of.

to properly do it manually inside of Avid, you would still need some plugins. You can create your own scanline file in photoshop. You can bring in overlays of snow and distortion, but to do a nice job of compositing, you would want to use different transfer modes, and Avid doesn’t think we need those as a built in effect, so you are now looking at Sapphire or Boris, and as was pointed out, they have the bad tv effect anyway. Perhaps there is a free trial in your future.

Fusion could be a good solution for this as well.
