  • Looking for a Good NTSC monitor for under $1000

Posted by Kevin Williams on June 9, 2005 at 9:00 pm

I’m not sure where to ask this, but since most of my work is in AE I’ll try here.

I’m looking to buy a good NTSC monitor for under $1000. The JVC TMH-15CGU looks good, any opinions?

Also I’m running a stock Mac G5 system, will I need to get a special video card to output to it?

Thanks for any help or opinions on this.

look into the PVM series by Sony. The 14″ model is pretty cheap/good

KEEP IN MIND: you want to have “blue check” option on any NTSC monitor you get, so you can calibrate to
color bars. There is plenty of info on the web how to do this if you’re not sure.

to get you video out of your Mac you’ll need a video card (Aurora Video Sys, Kona, Black Magic)
or a device like the aja i/o, which is firewire.

    good luck!

“Yes, good luck indeed. If you happen to find a good NTSC monitor for $1000, let us know. I need the inspiriation: I’m trying to find a good 5-cent cigar.”

Another user suggested the Sony PVM-14L2 which was around $1300. Would you say that this is not a good monitor?
    Looks good, around $1000, not a 20″ or anything…

I use the JVC TM-H150C in studio and have no complaints. It was the most inexpensive professional monitor I could find and it has served me well.
