  • Looking for a good chroma key plug in to deal with hair

Posted by Lawrence Eaton on February 21, 2017 at 3:42 pm

I’ve seen Phyx and Hawaiki and was wondering if anyone would add voice to this?

Reason: interview to blue screen with LOTS of hair (they could donate to me!)

    Many thanks

Inside FCPX, I’ve tried them all and I don’t think there’s anything better than the Hawaiki Keyer. It’s a brilliant Keyer and importantly, has all the analysis tools you need to see what’s going on with the footage and choose the right teqnique to pull the best key possible.

Outside of FCPX you’ll probably get a slightly better result faster using a nodal compositor like Fusion or Nuke, etc. I like Primatte in Black Magic’s Fusion a lot but i haven’t been able to justify buying Fusion and Primatte in the free version is a little too crippled to compete with Hawaiki.

+1 to what Jeff said. Hawaiki keer inside FCP X is a great tool. The presets are usually good enough for a good key, but you can tweak the settings to get an amazing end product. Totally worth the cost:)
