Looking for a choker
Posted by Blahtor Magnus on November 11, 2008 at 9:22 amHi, is there a Matte Choker effect for Sony Vegas?
Also, is there an edge-only color correction for keyed-out objects?John Rofrano replied 17 years, 9 months ago 4 Members · 8 Replies -

November 11, 2008 at 3:29 pmAs for edge-only color correction for keyed-out objects, that
specific type of feature isn’t present in vegas, but are
a feature in many chrome keying plugins…unfortunately there
isn’t a chroma keying plugin available presently for sony vegas.Steve Rhoden

November 11, 2008 at 4:15 pmAs you’ve discovered, the chroma keyer in Vegas is somewhat limited in it’s capabilities.
That’s why I consider myself fortunate to have the Digital Fusion chroma keyer at my disposal as it has all these tools built in. -

Sure there is. I use Boris RED for chroma keying in Vegas all the time (Boris FX has the keyer as well). In addition to having several matte clean-up tools (including a choker) it has a Light Wrap tool that will wrap the light from the background image around the keyed image which really helps with selling the effect that the subject is really in the scene. It’s an outstanding set of keying tools.

November 12, 2008 at 3:45 amCineGobs is a keyer that I keep forgetting about.
I haven’t personally tried it but I’ve read good things about it.
According to the tutorials, it has spill suppression and garbage mattes as built-in tools.
It’s a free download so you have nothing to lose. -

November 13, 2008 at 10:17 amOK, so there is no choker and no edge color correction in Vegas.
Are both CineGobs and Digital Fusion chroma keyer Vegas-compatible plugins?
Or are they third party apps?I have BorisRed in demo version. Couldn’t figure out where the keyer was.

Nope.
> Are both CineGobs and Digital Fusion chroma keyer Vegas-compatible plugins? Or are they third party apps?
They are 3rd party stand-alone apps that would require you to render your footage out of Vegas to import into them and then render the results back out into a 32-bit format that supports alpha channel to re-import back into Vegas. (which is why I use Boris Red) 😉

Try Filters | Keys and Matte | BCC Chroma Key and after that add Filters | Keys and Matte | BCC Matte Cleanup or BCC Matte Choker. Finish it off with BCC Light Wrap on that same menu and you’ll get an awesome key.
Check out the Chroma Key Tutorial on the BorisFX web site for more step-by-step instructions.
