Does anyone know of a better chroma key tool for FCP 6.0.5? The recording format for a show I’m cutting is DVCProHD 720p60, which is native 23.98 fps, 16×9 (1280×720). There is a lot of blue screen. The standard chroma keyer that comes with this version doesn’t have many handles- edges are jagged, no secondary keyer (i’m keying blue with yellow marks). I know I could export footage and do this in After Effects, where the keyer is much better. I would rather not go that route. THE BIG QUESTION- is there a more robust chroma (or color) key plug in that I can purchase for FCP 6.0.5?

    OK,.
first mistake is Blue screen(film), it should have been done on Green.
Blue is the nosiest channel in video and should not be used with compressed capture if at all possible.

Ultimatte is the best keyer on the market.
Primatte and KeyLight are available in Shake and simplified versions are in AE

I’m partial to Keylight. I was thrilled when they finally ported it for Final Cut.

Don’t forget, Motion is actually much better at keying than FCP and includes Primatte RT (which FCP doesn’t). Handshaking between the two apps (in most cases anyway) is relatively painless…

To my knowledge there is no lite version of Keylight from the Foundry in After Effects. If you use After Effects, you get a full license of KeyLight.

But Primatte RT, as it name says, is a simplified version of Primatte that is less processor-intensive, so that it can work in real-time. The tradeoff, of course, is that its keys aren’t much better in my experience than the ones using FCP’s own Chroma Keyer.
