Ok, My G4 1 GhZ 1.5Gb iMac has been a faithful warrior. But I’d like to get updated.

    I’m looking at the:

    21.5-inch: 3.06GHz
    1920 x 1080 resolution
    4GB memory
    1 Tb Disk
ATI Radeon HD 4670 graphics with 256MB

Question is, will my FCS 5.1.4 work on this h/w with Snow Leopard?

If not, Can I upgrade from 5 to 6? or do I have to go to 7? and how many clams will it take?

    Any advice is welcome!

    Thx!

    iMac family,

G4iMac, eMac, 2 minis, core duo macBook, and Intel iMac. Most with 10.4.x and FCP 5.1.4, except Intel with FCS 6.x

Without digging around, not sure if fcp5 will work on SL but I’m 99% positive that you can upgrade to FCS3 from version 5. At Amazon, it’s only $265 for the upgrade. Well worth it if you have the cash.

I also imagine that people that follow my response will tell you that you will definitely want to invest in an external hard drive. It’s never advisable to cut off your internal OS drive.

You can easily find the price of the Studio Upgrade at Apple.com. It’s around $299 to upgrade from Studio 1 or 2 to Studio 3. Not sure the cost of the upgrade from FCP 5.1.4 to Studio 3.

I would not try to run FCP 5.1.4 on SL.

If money is tight, you can probably pick up a second hand G5 dual 2.5 that will run your 5.1.4 on tiger or Leopard for a lot less.

I would, however, recommend upgrading both hardware and software together and leave your old system intact as an emergency fallback. If you want Snow Leopard, then FCS3 is a better choice to upgrade to.

SL requires an Intel machine, so a G machine won’t work.
