  • Looking At A Serious Investment Into Premiere Pro – Advice?

    Hi,

I just wondered if anyone had any negative and positive comments about Premiere Pro. We run a large facility and are reeling from Apple’s latest moves that have rendered a lot of our kit obsolete in terms of an upgrade path should we stick with Final Cut and the XSan system we have.

We are now looking at Premiere Pro and Lightworks as viable alternatives but I wanted to garner some feedback from those who use it professionally in it’s current version. The staff here are concerned that Premiere is renown for it ability to crash several times an hour and can often take twice as long to edit a piece. As projects get longer in time and larger in filesize they often take an age to open up and become sluggish, unstable and unworkable. We’ve also heard colour grading is ropey and the system requirements very narrow to get a workable NLE together. How have things changed and would it be worth holding back the investment until CS6 due for release in a few months?

I have to say FCP has been rock solid for us for almost 8 years but that era is now gone. Your thoughts are welcome so we may make a better informed decision. Ta!
