  • Long firewire connection??

    Hello all,

Little off topic but there are some excellent technical minds on this forum!!

I did a great recording from a HV10 to a Sony HDV camera the other day using a 4 Pin five meter cable I purchased.

I tried to couple two cables together to get 10 metres but the signal would not light up the Sony. So obviously the signal is not strong enough.

Any thoughts on boosting the signal so as firewire can be extended to longer distances?

Canon HV10 is an excellent POV camera. In this case it was mounted in a stationary car hit by a sled at high speed for car safety research – hence the need to record off board.

If firewire cannot go long distances, will HDMI ( HV20 ) converted to HDSDI using a DA to a 1400 VTR do so??

I am looking to go over 120 metres when I have to put the camera in a car that is moving into a barrier.

    Best
