  • Long bleeps when transferring from camcorder

Posted by Scott Thomas on July 25, 2008 at 9:41 pm

I am using the log and transfer process in FCP 6.0.4 to convert AVCHD files from a Canon HF100 camcorder in ProRes 422 clips. The process is working fine but the Mac is emitting long bleeps every 2 seconds while it is doing it. If I pause the conversion the bleeps stop. Start it up again and the bleeps return.

Anyone with any ideas what the problem could be?

Just to add some more information to the previous post. I have now tried using two different hard-drives and both cause the bleeping.

I have taken the SDHC card out of the camcorder and imported through a media reader and the beeps still occur.

The beeps start about 10 secs after the transfer starts and stop immediately after the transfer finishes.

The bleeps last for about 2 seconds, pause for 2 seconds , bleep for 2 seconds, etc. The bleeping is continuous.

Muting the internal speaker has no effect so I don’t think it is coming from here.

Any one got any wild ideas?

Finally I have discovered a way to get round the bleeps. Copy the entire folder structure from the AVCHD card onto the Mac hard drive into a new folder.

In log and transfer navigate to the “Private” folder, just one step in from the host folder. Click on open and the file structure will be recognised and the clips shown in the list.

Add the selected clips (or just part of a clip) to the Queue and they will automatically start to transfer, with no annoying bleeping.

Therefore I believe the bleeping is a warning against removing either the camera or external media during transfer, and the system is not concerned when it comes from an internal drive.

I hope my experience will help others.
