Im making a 4 minute animation in which I want the background to appear to be one continuos scene. For example a street that the camera pans along for 4 minutes. Can I do this as one file? If I have to make it as many shorter scenes then edit them together how do I make it appear as one? What kind of transitions could I use etc?

How much motion are you planning to do? If it’s not moving that far, it could all be one layer. If you’re planning to have it move a lot – so far that the image is too big for AE to use (I believe 30000 pixels is the limit), you could use the motion tile effect and have a looped background or you could create several different pieces that meet up against each other and have them move past.
