May 9, 2013 at 7:41 pmHey Dave,
I think he was talking about the bug in the lower right that pops in at 12 seconds.
And yes it is possible to re-create that inside of After Effects if that’s what you were asking. It seems like a pretty simple effect using some sort of shimmer or shine effect over the logo to emulate a glossy feel.

February 3, 2016 at 5:49 amNice breakdown. Funny thing was I built those transitions for the show and was just googling to show someone and stumbled across this. That was a fun project.

February 4, 2016 at 9:56 pmDid you use Zaxwerks 3d Invigorator to render the atom things or was it rendered out of a 3d app?

February 4, 2016 at 10:33 pmKeeping in mind it was 2006ish, Zax was the man back then. The first passes were very simple and then I dirtied it up with particular dots in the background just doing random things. Particular fireballs were attached to the electrons via nulls I think, and I believe I used some random camera movies to give it a wild vibe. The renders were painfully slow back then. The giveaway that it was Zax is the weirdo black white textured ball in the middle. Also the reflected environment is one of the primary reflections for Zax, at least in 2006.
It was a fun little project.

YES! I KNEW IT! I’ve been wondering if I was right about this for years! 😀
Gosh, I remember those days. It blew my mind how fast it rendered 3d (really good-looking 3d) inside of After Effects. You know, Zax still makes good stuff. Element changed the game a bit though. Well, that and the fact that real 3d like Cinema 4D is so much quicker to render than it used to be (and now comes free with After Effects).

I’m sure! I’ve always liked those graphics. Nice to meet the guy that made them. 🙂– The Great Szalam
