  • Logging imported files?

Posted by Leigh Harrington on August 6, 2008 at 7:57 pm

    Hi all,

I’m new to FC (coming from Vegas background) and I would like to add some notes (good take, reverse angle, tape name, etc) to .avi files that I am importing into FC. I read the manual but it didn’t really address logging footage that has already been digitized. I tried the log and transfer options but the program would not recognize the “file structure” I guess because the feature is really made to transfer from Solid State cards.

We have a large project we are working on and I would love for my assistants to be able to log the material that we’ve digitized through a third-party app. (20 hours worth). Can anyone get me started here?

    Thanks,
    -Leigh

Scrolling to the comments and notes panels in the browser or go to the logging panel of item properties to add information about the clips. These will appear in the browser and are searchable with Cmd-F.

    All the best,

    Tom

Thanks Tom. That helped. If I add the notes via the browser, where is the information stored? In other words, are these comments added to the master clips or only in that project file? In vegas, I would add comments via the trimmer so that the comments would stay connected with the original media since we tend to repurpose a lot of our material. I’ve heard that you have to be very careful with FC modifying the master clips because it can get you into a lot of trouble. Any truth to that?
