Loggiing clip program

I think it’s called, um, Final Cut Pro.

I use the log and capture function in Final Cut with no problems. In fact, I’m working on cataloguing all of the footage that we have from before I started working here. I made a new FCP file called “Tape Logs”, arbitrarily numbered all of the tapes, made bins corresponding with the numbers on the tapes, and am in the process of logging all of the tapes (w/o capturing, obviously) and giving the footage a lot of descriptive words that I might use if I were looking for this footage later on. Then, down the road when I need to find something obscure that I know we have, I open up Tape Logs, click in the browser, type apple-f, and do a search. FCP will search every column in the log so all of those descriptive words I used in the description of the clip will help me find the clip I’m looking for. In particular, I make sure I use the actor’s name in the description. I frequently find myself saying, “I need that clip that had Mary in it.” Hope this helps.

You can probably use any database or spreadsheet program to do this. There are some specialized ones. I remember one called Cumulus. Try searching https://www.publishingperfection.com/ to see what they offer.
