log clip – problems & computer freezes
Hello,
I am a totally newbie with FCP, but with a little help from Lynda.com i am slowly getting into it.
But here’s my first question:
When i am logging files for batch capture, when i click log clip (when the window opens for clip name & notes) i get the rainbow rotating ball and nothing happens. I also tried to leave for 5 or even 10 minutes, but it’s still just a rotating ball.Just before i press log clip i can hear some noises from my G5, like it’s waking up.This happened to me every 5th or 10th clip.
I already tried with Force quit on FCP, but when i reopened even after restarting the whole computer, i got the same problem.My scratch disk is set to 2nd internal hard drive which i bought just for capturing media.
I would really appreciate any advise,

Was the drive properly formatted for Mac Extended, journaling off?
Are you sure you have set permissions and ownership on the disk properly?It’s all quite confusing, Tina, and I’m afraid there are no clear answers to these kinds of questions; too many possibilities. I can tell you that the beach ball usually indicates your application is not responding, the Mac OS is swapping out huge amounts of data to your drive’s virtual memory or your drive has actually gone to sleep. So check your screensaver and energy saver settings to make sure your system drive is set to NEVER.

I totally agree with you for first reading the manual through!
I did for FCP, but its my first mac computer ever.(i use to edit on PC with Velocity)I already had turned off to “never” for computer and display in energy saver and also turned

I don’t know where to look & what to set to be proper.
Do you have any step by step advises on how to set up properly permissions and ownership?Thank you very much,
