    hi everybody,
    i’m using FCP502 on a dual G5.
It’s everything ok if i Log&Capture connecting a Sony HC90 but, when i connect my Canon XL2 or XM2 it happens as follows :
i got “VTR OK” in the Log&Capture window, i can control the tape in the camera but i got “Preview disabled” message when i push the play button and also if i try to push the capture now button it appears a black video and, after a while, the message ” this operation could not be completed as there is no video ”

    any suggestions please ?

The obvious suggestion is to only capture using a camcorder that works.

Canons are notorious for problems regarding their non-standard audio sampling rates, but not to the point of “unusablity” as you describe.

But, as above, why not just put the tapes in a camcorder or deck that DOES work with FCP and capture from that?

sure Matte, for the moment i’m doing that way but, since i have to sell my sony ( which, at the moment is the only way i have to capture ) how will i capture my dv tape recorded with the Canon XL2 50i 16/9 in the next days ? Is it possible that such a camera can’t work propely with Mac and FCP5 ???

Andrex, folks can and do capture with the canon. Search the posts here (or at lafcpug.org). Double check your a/v capture presets and sequence settings to be sure they match your camera.

As to AV settings what should I be using for Compression “DV/DVCPRO – NTSC.” I am using my DVX100 as a deck.

Hi – Did you ever solve this problem? I am having the exact same symptoms on FCP 4.5 – only it is effecting any capture source i try. Any suggestions you may have base on your experience would be greatly appreciated.

    Take Care and thanks…

Nevermind – I found the solution on this forum – my problem was related to an upgrade to Tiger –
