Log and Transfer:Imports only Half-Clips??
Posted by Heidi Garcia on December 28, 2010 at 4:11 amI am currently logging and transferring footage from a P2 platform into Final Cut Pro for a Wedding Video. I have 8 cards worth of footage logged and imported, however some of these clips have appeared to be only half-imported (showing a ‘half-moon’ kind of symbol. It does not say “spanned” or “incomplete” like others I am used to. Can anyone explain why this is?? It appears I am missing footage because of it, even though everything I have within the cards have been mounted.
Thanks for your time,

December 28, 2010 at 6:07 amDid you set IN and OUT points? That half-moon indicates that the FULL clip was not imported.

December 29, 2010 at 5:40 pmthanks for the response!
I do understand what the half-moon indicates, I am trying to figure out why and what I can do to fix it – there were no in and out points set during log and transfer. in some cases, I can scrub through the audio of a clip in the log and transfer window, but after importing them, the imported clip no longer plays all of the audio, only a few seconds before the waveform disappears. -

December 29, 2010 at 7:21 pmIn the Log and Transfer prefs, uncheck “remove pulldown.”

December 29, 2010 at 8:47 pmNot sure if it is just a problem with the Canon plugin but I have found that doing other things in FCP whilst L&T is chugging away can result in incomplete files. Treat it like Log & Capture.

May 14, 2011 at 11:08 pmFYI I have same issue when L&T 24p footage from CF card (shot on Sony Z7U).
Since Sony Z7U supposedly shoots true progressive @ 23.98 fps, the “Remove Advanced Pulldown etc” checkbox shouldn’t make any difference, and I have tried it both ways without any apparent effect.
My 24p footage plays properly in a 24p Timeline (23.98, “Compressor HDV 1080p24” in codec settings).
I have read from some people on this issue, that there is a missing 15 frames at head and/or tail during L&T; perhaps that would account for the oddity of the “half-moon” indicator.
Does this have something to do with the counter-intuitive notion that HDV is a LongGOP codec, yet Sony claims you are creating true progressive frames when you shoot 24p to card or tape with the Z7? Which is it, really? I don’t entirely understand it, and maybe FCP doesn’t either!

December 2, 2011 at 3:19 pmI’ve never had a problem with L&T (2 years of using my mac), now I cannot get complete files to transfer. I shot a holiday parade and it’s nearly 40 minutes in length. Used Panasonic HMC150 (AVCHD). Tried importing entire file and it only transferred 2:04. Tried breaking it into 4 even sections and it still wouldn’t work. Once again the first clip was only 2:04 and then the other 3 were random lengths. All should have been about 10 mins. Only 1 clip transferred completely, the remaining two clips were about 6 and 7 mins. Every time I try I get different lengths except for the first clip…that always seems to be about 2:04 (so does that tell us anything)? I tried unchecking the “remove pulldown”, and I have nothing else running in the background that I can tell…and I never try and edit while L&T is running. Any recommendations? I have a tv station waiting for this Parade footage and I don’t know what to do. Thanks.
