Right now I’m importing some footage from 5D cards through log and transfer.

FCP keeps randomly cutting clips short – importing 8 min of a 10 min clip, etc. The clips and end points seem entirely random – different each time I retry the process. I checked the drive – it’s formatted extended (not journaled) so there isn’t any size limit.

Does anyone know what the problem could be? I’m on a deadline, and I need this to work.

If you are connecting via usb, the CF card from the camera will mount on the desktop. Copy the .mov files from the card to your hard drive. You should be able to import the files from there.
The 5D2 has no Firewire connection.
Final cut will not recognize the 5D2, nor should it, nor do you need it too !
suggest you transfer the canon mov videos to prores422 with a mac hd video converter.

I’m actually copying from my harddrive – I’ve clicked and dragged the card files onto it and am opening those. Still getting the same problems.

This is a well known issue. If you do anything else with FCP while log and transfer is happening it will trucate clips.

Basically set it going and walk away – dont touch anything else and all will be fine.

    best wishes
