This feels like an obvious question but I’ve done everything I can think of. I’ve been using FCP for 6 years but this has me stumped.

I have 4 DV tapes that I need to capture as DV (they are anamorphic) so nothing fancy going on there. I’m capturing via a Panasonic HVX200/A through firewire. I can go through the tapes in Log & Capture just fine, setting my In and Out points like normal.

But when I click “Log Clip,” the dialog box pops up like normal and when I click “OK” nothing happens. No clip appears in the bin.

I’ve checked my easy setup, it’s correct. I’ve checked capture settings, timeline settings, logging settings, everything.

I attempted to simply capture Clip, rather than logging it first, and FCP does nothing. Doesn’t cue up the tape, doesn’t address the camera, doesn’t even give me an error.

I’m running FCP 6.0.6 on Leopard 10.7 on a MacPro 2008 dual-quad 2.66. The firewire ports work fine, repair permissions turns up no errors. I’m capturing to an internal 1TB drive with 500gb free space, I’ve never had this issue before, although I can’t remember the last time I had to capture off a tape.

I think that’s all the info that I know to give you. I’ll keep searching tonight, but I went back over 8 months and didn’t find anything here on the forums, so if anyone has ANY suggestions that’d be great.

I have this problem from time to time with my JVC GY-HD110U. Over time, the firewire port on the JVC has loosened up and sometimes doesn’t hold. Same symptoms that you describe. Everything seems fine, but nothing works. I shut down both the camera and Mac, reseat both cable ends, turn camera on first, then Mac and it usually works.
