I am editing on an 8-core mac pro with 8 gig of ram. running OSX 10.6.6 with FCP 7.0.3.

I have a client that used a Sony GV-D1000 NTSC miniDV tape deck to record an event. The deck has a firewire I/O so I was going to us that to transfer the video. The issue that I am having is that when I go to Log and Capture I can preview the audio but in the video preview it give me color bars and an error message that states video preview has been disabled. if I continue on and try to capture I get a new error message stating that the is no video signal.

as I’m transitioning from Avid to FCP, I’m sure that it is a simple thing that i’m not seeing or doing. Thank you ahead of time for your help.

Try using a different device control setting. If it’s set to Apple FW, then try FireWire Basic instead or vice versa…
