log and capture crash
Hi,
Ive installed a rather old version of FCP (5.0.1) on a MacPro (dual 2.8 Ghz), and every time I try to log and capture footage from a Sony HDV (the footage is DV), it simply crashes, no explanation why.On a related note, yesterday I tried the same thing but on an ibook (14″, 1.07 Ghz, 250Gb hard disk), and when I tried log and capture, it simply froze. I could log, but when it came to capturing, no dice.
I guess the former problem is the more pressing, but any help with both would be greatly appreciated!

FCP 5.0.x is not really compatible with Intel Macs. This is very widely known and well documented. The first version of FCP that was fully compatible with Intel was 5.1, which was released with much fanfare for just that reason.
If you want FCP to not crash unexpectedly on your Intel Mac, you’ll need to upgrade. The current version is 7.0.
