I posted this in the Adobe premiere forums as well. I should also mention that this bug showed up at multiple studios and is not a system setup issue (I don’t think).

Here is a description of the lockup:

While working, playing back or scrubbing through a timeline, the timeline video window will freeze. This is the sign that Premiere is now in a new bad state.
You may well be able to work in other sections of the timeline with video becoming active again but the section that contained the frozen video (and often shots near it in the timeline) will not playback, displaying only the frozen image seen before.
You can still save the project. But, without fail, quitting Premiere, while in this state, will always be unsuccessful. The interface will disappear but the active app icon will always remain–a force quit is needed to get rid of it.
If you try to delete preview files while in this state, you go to endless beach ball.

Restarting Premiere is usually successful but there will often be a complaint about missing preview files.
I changed the location of my preview cache to another drive with no help.

I just finished a series of projects. A long one shot on the Red Epic, another shot on Canon DSLR’s, and the latest one back on Red.

The problem only occurred during the Red projects. It occurs several times per day.

Don’t know if the new update will fix this or not but it is a pretty terrible problem for a professional app.
I am liking Premiere but it certainly feels a bit clunky and unreliable compared to the old FCP.
