Locking POSITION only
Posted by Eric Chard on May 14, 2009 at 7:12 pmI’m working w/masks and as usual am occasionally f’ing up and moving the layer rather than a mask node.
Is there a way to lock the position of the layer w/o having to lock ALL the animatable attributes? That is, how can I pin the layer down while still editing mask nodes?
Thanks!

May 14, 2009 at 7:26 pmTwo ideas:
Set an expression on your Position property that defines it as a constant value.
OR
Don’t work with a mask on the layer. Work with a mask on a solid layer above the locked footage layer.
I describe the latter approach a bit in a blog post about rotoscoping, in which I also recommend the Pete O’Connell Creative COW DVD on rotoscoping. (Pete uses this method, too.)

May 14, 2009 at 7:45 pmUsing the eyeball switch makes it very hard to select the mask nodes (it deselects the mask), I think I’ll try using OPACITY at a very low level instead.

May 14, 2009 at 7:54 pmYeah, because of the particular nature of the POSITION attribute, and the way the user interacts with masks being ambiguous to the application, locking POSITION out would be nice.
I’m on AE7, so a little behind the times…
