  • locking down exposure in post?

Posted by Pat Kingery on October 7, 2005 at 11:30 pm

I have some footage that is from a locked down camera shot under fluorescent and incandescent lights. It is a close-up head and shoulders shot of a speaker.

There is an almost imperceptible change in the exposure (?) as the speaker moves his head. The change is very slight I’m not sure if is in exposure or white balance. I suspect that both were left on auto.

Is there a way to “lock” the color/exposure of a certain section of the frame so that there is no vaiation over time?

    Thanks

Yes. Set the camera to manual so that these automic shifts don’t occur in the first place.

In post? Nope. You will have to adjust it on the fly and keyframe it.

Cut the clips into segments, based on exposure/color changes.

Set one clip up the way you want it to look.

Then adjust each clip to match the optimized clip.

Drop dissolves between the clips to transition from one to the next. Adjust the transitions to make it seamless if necessary.
