Here’s my setup. Intel E6600 @2.4 GHZ DuoCore, 4 Gig Corsair 800MHZ Ram, 160GB Seagate 3MB SATA system Drive, 640GB Seagate Raid 0 (2x 320GB Drives), ATI X1900XTX 512MB (Iknow it doesn’t help vegas)and the computer system runs lower than 44Cel and the CPU lower than 40Cel under load (Zalman Colling System. The computer is locking up for multiple reasons on one particular veg file which is one complete capture of a HDV file from a Canon XH-A1 that is 40-50clips total. The computer has completely locked up requiring a hard reboot repeatedly while trying to render an Uncompressed Quicktime file in multiple formats (at the same percentage each time), Locked up when trying to render uncompressed AVi File, locked up while applying filters (minor color correction–fire your cameraman if he white balances with the ND filter on), and the latest is the red screen of death while previewing with a resulting locked up Vegas program. I have defragged, turned on a spyware and system scanner and turned it off again after use, ran EnditAll2 after restarting the comp, and had absolutely no probelms before with the same workflow. I Have worked 10-15 hours of footage without any problems in the past. I really need help as the project is due on Wed……Any ideas????? Some replies have been power supply and heat issues. Heat doesn’t seem likely as 45Cel or below across the board is reasonable, and power supply works fine with other clips. It’s just this one “key” tape capture. Help!!!!

I use Vegas Pro 8.0c and haven’t experienced this ‘red screen of death’ until now…now when I started to work with HD videos…the same red screen in my track list appears in few clips…Especially in last ones.
I know this is old thred and old issue but I have done thousands of things to solve this problem, but non of them helped. Only if I split my 8min HDvideo to 4min videos or less then the problem disapears. I’ve heard many users can work with large (more then 8min videos, even more then 5h) HDvideos in Vegas software, so Vegas should handle big HD files, right?
But what causes this problem in some computers then?
All threads are old by now and I still can’t find answere anywhere. Anyone figured this out yet?
Even Sony forum doesn’t seem to have adequate answere.

I know this is an old thread, however I encountered the red screen on death plenty of times and have found a solution.

Its not a cheap solution, however I found running Sony Vegas 64bit on 64bit chipset with 4GB RAM works flawlessy.

I tried various techniques to resolve the red screen, but nothing worked. Eventually and reluctantly I attempted 64bit and works perfectly. I haven’t encountered a red screen since.

So if you are serious about using Vegas, bite the bullet stop wasting your time with 32bit, go 64bit.

Thanks for the input David. If it comes up again, I’ll try it.
