Im a new user of After FX, I believe my question should be fairly easy…

I woudl like to know how do you “lock” the position of a mask?
What I am trying to do is to move a layer around but keep the mask on the same place. now when I move a layer with a mask the mask follows it.. I want to “lock” the mask position…
    Any thoughts?

    Hi Stephan,

You want to use a track matte.

Create a mask on a solid layer that lies on top of the layer you want to cut out. Then click on the TrkMatte dropdown menu on your footage layer, select Alpha Matte.

Here’s the layer order for you:

    1) Masked solid
    2) Your footage – Track matte set
    3) Background (if used)

Now you can move your footage layer around and the mask won’t move.

    Hope that helps,
