I am trying to load an image sequence shot with a Nikon D200 as NEF files,
    into AE 7.0 Pro….

I loaded the new camera raw plug-in and get this error:

After Effects error: the plug-in requires services not provided by this host

The old camera raw plug-in for AE did not work either…

I have the new camera raw plug-in installed in Bridge and CS2
I can open NEF files in CS2 – I am trying to do per the
manual – one correction on the first file in AE and it supposed
to do the same op on the entire sequence ….
saving out as .tiffs would be painful….

I don’t believe that AE supports RAW yet.

I recommend setting up a batch action in PS to resave as TIFFs, TGAs or something else that AE can take. If you do it now, it’ll be done before the next useful response to your question appears here, I’ll wager. 🙂

That is what I will do….
In the AE 7 Manual Page. 87
*You can import sequences ofcamera raw files in the same way you imort sequences of
    still image files.

I guess Adobe is too busy rolling out CS3….

Hmph. Guess it’s supposed to accept RAW files but doesn’t.

Nevertheless … did you follow my advice in the interim?

The version of Camera Raw that is included with AE7 is a special version made for AE. You can’t update it with the latest versions made for Photoshop and Bridge. (I think the version included with AE is roughly 3.3.)

    You can either:
    * Open the NEF file in Photoshop, make changes, save as a PSD and use it in AE.
    * Convert the NEF to a DNG using Photoshop, Bridge, or Adobe’s free DNG converter, and use the DNG in AE.

If you’re doing a sequence of NEF files, the DNG Converter can batch process a whole folder, or you can set up an action and batch in Photoshop to do the work.

This problem won’t occur with After Effects CS3. It uses the same Camera Raw plug-in as Photoshop, and it can be replaced with the updated version.

Ok, thanks – that is a good workflow option….
Looks like the CS3 update will be the way to go!!
