Loading External Text Dynamically
Hi all,
I posted this in the main forum, but someone suggested I try in here. I have a problem that’s been plaguing me for years, and could really use some suggestions, or even if it’s possible in AE. I produce a lot of corporate animations that once completed, need to be sent out for translation for the on-screen titles & text. Typically they send the project & source files somewhere to be manually translated within the AE project.
My question is, is there a way for AE to dynamically read a text file ? This way, when it’s time for translation, I can have them edit that external file, and not have to ship them the ENTIRE project & source files. Ultimately, I’m trying to streamline the process. Thoughts ?

You can do this fairly easily with a script. The details will depend on the structure of your project though, so you’re not likely to find a canned solution.

But, I guess the question is will it update dynamically ? I noticed your crg_Text_from_File.jsx script (excellent, btw), but it only pulls it in on the initial run.

What do you mean by “update dynamically”? I guess I don’t understand your desired workflow.

Check out this tutorial from Harry Frank. He uses an include statement at the start of an expression to reference a text file that contains variables which are called based on the comp name. It’s a super-ingenious alternative to scripting that probably fulfills 90% of most people’s needs.
