  • Livetype titles block out underlaying video

First sorry, I mis-posted in DVD-Studio forum.. been that kind of night.

    —————

I created some titles for a short video using livetype, the way I have 100 times before. I imported them into FCP now the entire background is black and the existing video under it in the timeline is no longer visible. I pulled it into FCP and it blacks out the clip that’s under it.

I went into another project that I have made titles and used before (that I know as transparent), pulled that title into my project and it does the same thing (blots out the underling video)

I don’t think this is the first time I have done this in FCPS2, but I have noticed a few things not working since the upgrade, I guess that is the price of some nifty new features.

*ANY* suggestions appreciated.. its probably something boneheaded, but I can’t figure it out.

Open your clip in the viewer. In top of the viewer you got three small windows. Open the one on the right and check Alpha. You should see an image of your title in BW. If everything is white there is not Alpha channel. If so, you may have exported your titles with a background so all the Alpha channel of the Animation is cover.

It works correctly for me. make sure the alpha setting is set right.

    All the best,

Also make sure render background is unchecked in your LT project settings.

Also make sure that in Live Type in your Project Properties menu that the background opacity is set to 0%. Otherwise you will import your type over a black (or whatever color is selected) background and the background will completely cover the layers under it.

Hi.. as I erroneously posted in the FCP DVD board by mistake, then here where it should have been, I am posting this (below) to both for the reasons stated below..

    —————–
    Hi All,
First thanks for the help, though no one guessed it, working in that direction did finally help me figure it out.

Maybe someone can explain it to me, as I don’t quite understand it. I took a film clip of a sign where I was going to superimpose my titles below. As the camera bounced a bit when I shot the sign, I decided to slow it down in motion. I remember playing with forward speeds, reverse speeds, etc, just by manipulating the time curve in the graph. I thought I finally had arrived at a single stopped frame (basically, a photo). Well.. it didn’t like it, I played around with its alpha properties, and no setting appeared to work. I finally moved the title over another clip and “Voila!” I had a title. So I deleted the video clip of the stopped picture of the sign and did it a second time.. it worked.

One of my pet peaves is when someone posts a problem, people post help, and they never respond.. at least give feedback!

Thanks tons guys.. I really appreciate the help.
