I’m using Media Manager in FCP 5.1.4 to recompress projects to free up storage room. I’m working in 8 bit uncompressed. In these projects are Live Type rendered quicktime movies. When I open the new project after it’s footage has been re-compressed, the Live Type quicktimes do not key over the other layers anymore. I can re-render the Live Type movies and bring them into the project and they key fine but this is very time consuming. Any ideas how to fix this problem or another method in Media Manager to use?

    Thanks,

“Re-compress”? That term is mostly used incorrectly around here. You will need to tell us what you are really doing.

If you are changing the format of the LT movies by recompressing them, you are losing the alpha channel so, yes, they must re-render.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

bogiesan, you response helped me see that what I should be doing in Media Manager is Copying the Media and removing unused materials etc. instead of “Recompressing” the media. I tried that and it worked with all external Quicktimes maintaining their alpha information.

    Thank you very much.
