I’m wanting to use Live Trace on an image I prepped in PS (exported as jpg) but will need an outline going out of AI for use in a project. From what I have tried so far, this is not possible.

Is jpg the wrong format to start with and is there another that would work? Or, is there a method whereby I can get an outline from a traced document at all?

    Thanks for any help!

After you used Live Trace to vectorize your PS image, you have to “expand” the tracing Result via “Object”…”expand”.
Once it’s expanded you can select all the traced shapes and use “Pathfinder” to combine them all into one shape, from which you can create the outline by applying a stroke and no fill.
    hope that helps.
    cheers,
    Adi
