Is there any way to capture real-time footage off an HVX200 with time
code through the 1394 output? I have tried several settings of DVCPROHD device control, but I will get a “Capture Now has reached end of tape…” message after about 1 second of record time. “Non-controllable Device” will bring in the footage but not the TC.

I don’t think so…no. You cannot capture camera TC from the camera…it does not have a TC out, and that information is not accessable via firewire in this method. Nope…you might need to get a FIRESTORE in this instance.

I can see the correct timecode running in the FCP capture window from the camera, just as I would if I were capturing from tape. It is only when “Capture Now” is clicked that the error message appears. If this worked, it would minimize the need to download P2 cards since they would be a backup to the captured footage, as long as the timecode is identical.

Well, you can only capture THAT timecode if you had deck control…and you can’t with that camera in that mode. Besides, even if you did capture that way, when you started and stopped the camera, that wouldn’t trigger FCP to start and stop, so your media would be different durations and starting and stopping TC, so it wouldn’t match up to the P2 at all…so it really isn’t a backup.
