Live green screen with motion effects

Without a motorized motion platform, you have to do this all in the video environment.

That’s a DVE move, some rotation plus x-y moves, more or less synched to a video playback and live compositied in greenscreen. The easiest way I can think of to do the greenscreen and the motion you want in one package is to get a Video Toaster or Tricaster, use A pre-programmed move you can trigger once and replay, to get the swishing movement, and the DDR in the toaster/tricaster will repeat the same pre-recorded clip so the motions should all more or less stay in synch.

There are other ways to do this but the Toaster or tricaster is the first one I can think of that can do this all in one box, in a pre-programmed, repeatable fashion. You might be able to rent one for the duration of the project.

Hi Thanks for the info.

I’ve had a look and it seams like a cool piece of kit.

At the moment it is for some R&D for future to offer for our clients (tourism photography). Is there another option that is more software based as if it goes ahead it will be something we will buy but dont think the bosses would like me buying/hiring such expensive kit.

I was hoping for more of a software solution (if possible) that can be run on a pc as the tricaster could add approx 7k capex to each site

If it doesn’t have to be live, you could do it in anything from Apple Motion to Aftereffects, etc. on a mac or PC laptop, with great results, and a turn-around time of as little as maybe an hour. If you want these effects live, they come at a cost. The green screen can be done cheaply live with a thousand-dollar-or-less switcher. But adding in the complex motion simulation of the banking and swooping complicates it. I suppose you could mount your camera in a rig and do all that rolling with the camera, by hand, but it would take a skilled shooter with excellent consistency to match the camera moves to the pre-recorded moving background, for something like the broom dodging around obstacles. I can’t think off-hand of anything cheaper that would do the job right, and do it live. And… if you can’t afforrd to do it right, ….perhaps you shouldn’t be doing it.
