    Is there anyway to mimic a 4 camera setup in AE using 4 comps?
    How else can I explain it — having 4 REAL TIME cameras moving projecting their data onto 4 separate Layers (or comps?).

    I’m steering away from pre-comping, because I don’t want it to be destructive if I re-position the cameras.

    You probably meant to post in the After Effects forum.

    Just to answer your question, yes you can open a additional windows for any layers.

    Hold ctr (pc) and double click on the layer. That will open that layer’s own window.

    The simplest way for 4 comp windows: Window>workspace>4 Comp view.
