  • Live Broadcast Workflow Kona LHe – HDCAM SR

    Hi –

I am facilitating a hectic workflow for a live show and I’m want to see if this will work.

    Packages:
    Footage shot on P2 @ 720p30n

Edited and output to HDCAM SR via Kona LHe

Ingested to truck. Rolled in during broadcast via EVS.

    Live Broadcast:
Recorded to HDCAM SR in Truck.

Master tape ingested from HDCAM SR tape/deck via Kona LHe.

Re-Edited for Re-Air. Output back to HDCAM SR.

Unfortunately, I have to bring the HDCAM SR deck into the edit for outputs/ingest/re-output,
and this is a first, so I am a bit nervous about the workflow.

    Questions
    1) Will this work?
    2) What HDCAM SR deck model should be requested?
    3) What HD monitor should be requested?
    4) What setting should be used to digitize the Live Broadcast tape back into FCP?

    Thanks for your help,
    Jesse Gordon

How bout skipping the SR and using a KiPro? Much easier, faster and file based instead of tape based ingest.

This was my original thought, but the number if Ki pros necessary for every ISO, plus a tech to oversee is not feasible. The broadcast truck already has HDCAM decks standard. And, the last Multicam show i was on, one of the Ki pros crapped out and camera compact flash cards had to be used instead. This does not inspire confidence.

Don’t you just need one, maybe two for backup? i thought you said you were ingesting from switch?

Also, you aren’t working dual link, right? if so the LHe won’t work.

If single link, it will work fine. As far as codec, I’d go ProRes.

    All ISOs are needed.
In the cut-down for re-air ISOs only used where necessary (when cutting chunks out of Line Cut)
but the network will certainly insist on recording all ISOs.
In any case, at this point, I’m pretty sure HDCAM is a done deal (trucks got it, etc etc).
So, for ingest, cutdown, re-output Do you still advise Prores?
    thx
    Jesse
