hey, just wondering if someone can help. i believe i fall into the noob section. i have used after effects before but pretty much only followed tutorials and then slightly customised it to make it how want, so this time i need to do something soooo simple and i cant work it out….what was looking at was:

ive have a word. and ive used the pen to make it look like its writing the word i want. but i want the word to shatter but really slowly so as the word is being formed is slow cracks but still readable and then when its finshed, i want to completley shatter…. i hope that the discription is ok….
    any help would be good.

    thanks guys!

You could use the shatter effect on the precomped text layer, then time remap it to slow down the shatter at the start. But this will also slow down the ‘writing’ of the text, so you may need to speed that up at the start and slow it down at the end to match the changes in the shatter. Could be tricky to match them up.

Another way to slow down the Shatter effect, is to raise the viscosity value.
Note that the viscosity doesn’t work as the time parameter in Trapcode Particular, meaning if you raised the viscosity and the shatter parts have lost their velocity, reducing the viscosity will not restore their original velocity and the shatter parts will only be affected by the gravity, in that case you should add another force to drive them.
