Little exercise : Best timeline setup for RED epic in a specific project
Hi,
We’ll have a special project to grade.
It was shot in RED EPIC 5K, anamorphic
It’s for TV so output has to be in 1920×1080And the ratio of the picture has to be 2.0
What’s the best setup ?
1920×1080 timeline with output zoom to reach 2.0 aspect ?
or 2160×1080 timeline with 1920×1080 output ?
Or …. ?Of course, it will be rendered with full premium debater

Hello Thibault,
I would build your project as the image ratio with the custom project size; like for 2.39:1 in 1080 is 1920×804.
Do you mean that the anamorphic lens is 2:1 stretch and the ratio of the footage is 2.39:1 (it would have been shot with default 2.39:1 frame guides or custom frame guides, ask what they did)?
Then export as desired and Resolve will matte the empty space for you.

It was shot in anamorphic so I just change the pixel aspect ratio of each clip, using ‘cinemascope’ setting.
My first choice was to create as you said a 2.0 timeline, which is 1920×960.
I was wondering if there is a quality difference between two settings :
-1920×960 timeline, 1920×1080 output,
-1920×1080 timeline, output zoom to reach 2.0, 1920×1080 outputBest,
