    Lion and Mountain Lion on same Mac – Not Possible?

    I’ve been trying to upgrade my Mac Pro 3,1 from Snow Leopard this weekend, but I am having issues.

    I have two internal drives, and I’d like each one to run a different OS. I want to do this because some of my software, namely FCP7, will only go up to Lion. New software, which I intend to purchase in the near future, will work on Mountain Lion.

    My first step was to install Mountain Lion on one of the drives. This was completed easily and successfully.

    I proceeded by formatting my drive which had Snow Leopard loaded onto it. I tried to load Lion onto it, but my computer wouldn’t allow me to do so since I was doing it from a start-up disc that had Mountain Lion loaded onto it (lame).

    So then I tried to install Snow Leopard onto the disc again via OS DVDs, but now I’m getting a kernal panic.

    I created a disk image of the Snow Leopard DVD and used Disk Utility to restore it onto a 3rd internal drive. After trying to boot from THAT 3rd drive, I still get a kernal panic.

    I have also removed the drive with Mountain Lion and tried to boot the Snow Leopard disc, still getting a kernal panic.

    Has Apple written their OS to prevent someone from loading two different OSs to their computer??
