I shoot on EX1 1080×720 30fps so I can fit 1 hour onto a 16G SxS card. I am the only person in my company that deals with video so my needs for media storage are much more than anyone else here and now we are trying to cut back on costs. One way to do that would be to cut down on my hard drive storage needs.
Up to this point I have edited the .mxf files and kept the mp4 files for backup. I would like to get rid of the .mxf files altogether to free up space and then edit with the native mp4. In order to do so I would have to re-link all the .mxf files with corresponding .mp4 file.
I tested out some relinking strategies and any .mxf file that is in a timeline give me a “The selected file cannot be linked because it has 2 audio channels and the clip was created with 1 audio channel” error when I try to link it with the .mp4 file.
Any suggestions on a better way to re-link these?

Try making the original clip offline, then putting it on the timeline. Then load the MP4 into the source viewer. Right click on the offline clip on the timeline,ad select “replace with clip from source viewer – match frame” (not sure it is worded exactly this way – I’m away from my system). This seems to get around the matching audio tracks issue. I’m not sure if this relinks in the bin or only on the timeline.
