    Hi guys,

This is my first time posting, but so far i’ve found the site very helpful. I’m quite new to FCP and this might be a rookie question. I’m also using some footage of not ideal quality. Basically, the footage i’m using is .mpg format. When i view it in finder using VLC it looks fine. It even looks fine when i view it in the viewer in FCP. When i drop it into my timeline however there are these lines that make any motion look horrible. Am i dropping it into my timeline funny? I set in’s and out’s and drag it into the timeline.

I figured it might just be a problem vieing it on the canvas, but evertime i try to export it the problem persists.

Here is some info that might shed some light on the issue:
    Vid rate 30fps
    Frame Size 720×404
    Data Rate 1.1MB/sec

Is there a way i can improve this. I understand that poor quality in = poor quality out, but i didn’t think it would change so much as soon as i dragged it onto the timeline.

    Very much appreciate any help.

    Thanks!

I’m pretty certain that you have interlaced footage in a progressive timeline. Changing the sequence settings to match the clip settings should fix the problem. You’ll always see interlace lines on a progressive monitor like your computer screen however.
