  • Lines in text? (Interlaced?)

Posted by Justin Leyba on December 11, 2009 at 1:47 am

    Hi guys!

When I render my short films to sony vegas i always get lines in text. It’s like an interlaced text. How do I fix that? How do I interlace it including my videos?

    *24p— Project Properties
    *24P NTSC .avi— Render

On what output device are you seeing the interlacing lines?

If you are using the default 24p project and render templates then your footage should all be progressive. Make sure that you start with a 24p project so that any generated media text that you add is added as progressive. Starting with a 60i project, adding text, then switching to 24p will not work as the text will be interlaced.

My camcorder records 60i then I convert all to 24p. Is that the problem?

That could be the problem. Did you change any of the project settings? You should not have. Especially the deinterlace method. It should not be set to none. If your footage is 60i I would keep the project 60i and then render to 24p is the final step and Vegas will make the conversion for you and deinterlace properly.

The other options is to convert all of your footage to 24p before you start editing and then use a 24p project because your footage will already be progressive from the conversion. This is a lot more work and I would try the first method and see if your like the results. Vegas does a pretty darn good job at 24p conversion from a 60i project as a final step.

Ohhh.. So I just keep my project properties settings to:
    NTSC DV(720×480)
    FRAMERATE: 29.970?
    DEINTERLACE METHOD: Blend Fields

    Render Settings:
    .avi
    NTSC 24p (2-3 pulldown)

    Is that right?
Thank you for the tip! It has been really helpful! 😀

You know what? After I rendered it and watched it, it still has those random lines in the text (it will show up then goes out)(tracking animation for the text). Do you know what I’m talking about? But the video looks great! Thnx.

Are you watching on a PC or TV? If the text is generated media then it’s progressive to start out with. I don’t know why it would show interlacing on a PC but it will on a TV if the TV is interlaced.

Right now, I’m watching it on my PC. But I bet it will show up on my TV because of my past experiences.

Hey john! I used your watercolor effect in Sony Vegas and it really helped! It prevented me from downloading plug-ins. Thank you for sharing that! =)

Glad you liked it. There is a lot you can achieve with a little bit of experimentation.
