Yup, it sounds like you have an interlacing problem which is usually caused by an incorrect interlace setting somewhere in your workflow. For a Sony FX7 you should be using the following templates:

Project: HDV 1080-60i (1440×1080, 29.970 fps)

Render:

Video: MPEG2 – DVD Architect NTSC Widescreen video stream
Audio: Digital Dolby AC-3 Pro – Stereo DVD

Check that this is what you used. Don’t change any of the defaults.

thank you John for your reply…the problem is I borrowed the camera..didn’t realize that it was not shot in HD..but rather DV. Thats what I think anyway…because when it captured..it would only capture thru DV…not HD. The DV tape plays on my Sony pd170 so I think it was DV. (The mini dv tape I bought said HDV/DV)

The project settings I used were:

NTSC DV Widescreen (720×480, 29.970 fps)

720×480

I am so confused about the interlace thing…originally it was set to none..and I later I changed it to blend.

I have been reading the forum for days trying to figure out the correct answer..as I was supposed to have this video for the customer days ago.

I again delayed them..and promised to have it today….

Do I take the rendered avi file and change the properties to what you listed ?? or Take the veg work file …and change the properties and Render like that ?? Being it was not shot in HDV ??

Never set interlacing to none. Especially when working with interlaced footage.

Why did you render an AVI file? You should be rendering to MPEG2.

You should go back to the project .veg file. Make sure that you select the NTSC DV Widescreen (720×480, 29.970 fps) project template and that Deinterlace method is set to Blend fields. Then render with the MPEG2 and AC3 templates in my previous post. Those files will drop right into DVD Architect.

I render to avi 1st..for everything ..b4 converting to another format..is this correct ??

It depends. If you shoot HDV your video is using 4:2:0 color sampling. DVD MPEG2 also uses 4:2:0 color sampling. DV AVI, however, only uses 4:1:0 color sampling. So if you render to DV AVI first, and then DVD MPEG2, you are throwing away color information that could have made your video look better. If, however, you are shooting DV in the first place, then it’s perfectly fine to render to DV but even then, each render looses some information so going directly to MPEG2 from the timeline will always give you better quality than rendering twice.

Yes. Leave the field order as is.
