Lineing up layers
Posted by Reggie Spires on October 16, 2007 at 5:16 pmIn my 3d object (logo) there are several layers. I am trying to animate some outer rings in a clockwise fashion. I know the rings are symetric but when I automate it looks warped. I think it is not having all of the layers lined up the same as it relates to the #d field.
Question
How do you snap layers to a perfect perpindicular or horizontal etc.

October 16, 2007 at 5:52 pmHi,
Did you try to recenter the pivot point for your ring?
Also use the Stats menu to perfectly arrange your objects.
Salut.

October 16, 2007 at 6:40 pmAs I read the manual .. I am a little confused. I have 3 objects besides the ring that I want to move. I want it to move however based on the ring. So If I recenter the pivit point with all the objects in the set then it takes an avg. So I sould add the ring, recenter, and then add the other objects?

October 16, 2007 at 7:12 pmIf the main ring was not placed at the center of your artwork in IL your pivot point won’t be at the center of the ring.
Here is what you could do:
-Select all your objects and assign them to set (0)to free Set# (1)
-Select the object you want to have the pivot point placed at its center and assign it to set # (1) for instance.
Now if you moved your objects a lot, select this object click on reset and move to center. Your pivot point (Red cross) can still be offset. In this case go to the Scene Preview window and use the “Recenter Pivot” feature.-Now that your pivot point is at the center of your main object go back to the Set-Up window and add the other objects to set# (1)and place them wherever you like. By animating Set# (1)you will now see that all objects will rotate etc… based on your ring.
Does this help or did I misunderstood something?
Salut.

October 16, 2007 at 7:22 pmTHat helps … Now
When I reset, and “move to center” the ring, it obiously moved it away from the other objects. DO i just have to replace those objects my hand, because when I did a “reset” “move to center” on them they went the other direction
