  • Line Through Adjustment Layer with Particle World

I’m creating a background for a monitor that will be behind my presenter. I wanted to add some particles so I created an adjustment layer and set it as the last layer, just to get some movement in some of the negative space in the background. I set it up to render when I left work last night, and when I came in this morning there is a line through the screen. I’ve determined that it is an artifact from the adjustment layer, and I’m using CC Particle World that was included with the 6.5 production bundle so I don’t think that it’s a demo version but I could be wrong.

Any thoughts as to what this might be and how to get rid of it? It definitely seems related to Particle World and the adjustment layer; if I turn the adjustment layer’s visibility off, it goes away. Thanks again.

Some particle effects (and I’m pretty sure Particle World is included in this) render a wireframe floor in the default render settings, check the effect for a dropdown menu of render options/settings there should be something like “Full Render.”

Also, what is the purpose of using an adjustment layer if it’s the last layer in the stack? Why not a solid with the effect applied? If it works for you that’s fine, but it seems like a strange way to work =)

Yep. Adjustment layers are only meant to be used when you want the effect applied to the adjustment layer to also affect (not just appear on top of) all layers below. For instance, if you wanted to brighten all layers below the adjustment layer, you’d apply levels to the adjustment layer, and all layers below it will change.

But if you just wanted to create some particles and have them appear on top of a bunch of layers, just apply the particle effect to a solid, and place it above the other layers. Set the effect to make the base layer (the solid) transparent if necessary.

In other words, use solids for this sort of thing: strokes, shatter, particles, etc. Don’t use adjustment layers.

    Like Darby said. 🙂

I just ended up taking the particles out. I came to the conclusion that it was a little busy. Thanks for the tips!

I am using a Solid Layer, as soon as I put CC Particle World on the layer, I get an X wireframe in the window. It’s not the floor, but a thin X as if the window is selected however it is on there all the time, even during rendering. I looked through PW Options, but still can’t find anything to turn it off. Please Help!!!!!!!!
