Line of shapes, changing to another shape at a point long a line – HOW TO?
Hi there,
Does anyone have any ideas on how to do this? With or without script/plugins.
See attached picture…there are lines of different shapes/colours (some little triangles, circle, squares etc) coming from left of screen (off a train/tube map style arrangement) they then need to change into the purple rectangle lines when they hit a point on screen. The arrow shape and colour change is not such a problem for me, I can just mask that shape/colour in. The main problem I’m having is how to get the shapes to change progressively at a point rather than all at the same time.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

How are the lines coming in? For example the green dots, are you revealing them with a stroke wipe or do they scale up? Maybe they’re already on the screen and you’re moving the camera?

So I ended up figuring it out myself for anyone who is interested…
The lines were coming in from the left of screen.
I made a shape for each line (eg orange triangle).
Then I pasted the path that I wanted them to travel along onto their position value (making sure their anchor point was centered).
Then right click > trransform > auto-orient > orient to path
This key frames the shape moving along the path.
Then apply Echo effect (Time>echo) and adjust the setting to suit desired spacing and amount of repetitions needed.
Done!

Oh and then when you want the shape in the line to change (ie orange trianlgle to purple rectanlge) just do this as you normally would with a shape (keyframe change shape path and fill colour) at the desired time. Echo will change the shapes progressively down the line.
