  • Line between 2D null and 3D layer?

Posted by Jiri Fiala on August 19, 2014 at 7:59 pm

    Hi!

I’ve got a scene tracked with the built-in 3D tracker camera. I also have a 2D null that tracks the movement of an object that I tracked in Mocha AE.

Now, I need to draw a line between the 2D-tracked null and a 3D layer that moves with the camera (=it sticks to the footage).

I tried Motion Boutique’s ConnectLayers script but it doesn’t connect 2D and 3D layers properly (only two 2D or two 3D layers).

    Can anyone help? Thanks!

When I parent the 2D null to the camera, I get proper connection, but the anchor point of the null is off (see the picture – the line that now ends in the middle of the blue pre comp should be ending on the null)

You need to convert your 3d point to 2d coordinates in order for it to work. Hopefully this will help.

Thanks, but that knocks the null way off its original position.

Did you make a new 2d null and reference the 3d layer you want the line to go to?

Oh! I was applying the expression to the original tracked null, which is obviously wrong.

It works! Thank you so much!

Glad to hear that you got it to work!
