there might be a tutorial for this, but I can’t seem to find it.

I’m trying to parent one end of a line to Object A and the other end of the line to Object B.

This video is a good example of what I’m tying to do with the lines https://vimeo.com/15271355

I’ve played around with the write-on effect and trying to parent the position of the brush to a null object with tracking data and then the layer position of the solid with the write-on effect applied to a separate null object that also has tracking data. This produced a kind of interesting squiggly line animation, but I’m looking for more of the linear, geometric shape.

    Any ideas??

okay, still having a hell of a time here.

I can parent the start and end of the beam to any null object that has tracking data applied. However, I have multiple objects within the comp that are all parented to that null object. What I’d like to do is have various beams connecting to each graphical element. I can’t parent the beam start/end point to the layer’s position properties because the elements are just parented to the null!

For example, I’d like lines emanating out from this stop watch to the numbers, but I can’t seem to figure out how to parent the beam position to those layers…

Basically, If I could move a whole null object and it’s tracking data, that’d be awesome…

OH wait! I can just select all of the keyframes from the track data and move them at once! This will be an okay work around.

You should use expressions for this. You may not have to do more than alt-click the stopwatch and drag the pick-whip.

But this way you can have a null for each corner point (which is tracking something or keyframed or whatever), and pick-whip each line’s end point to this null’s position. This way you can have multiple lines converging on single points.

I need somewhat similar effect.. However the beam effect makes a straight line. I am trying to trace an orbit of a planet. So I want one end of the line/arc to be fixed(at the starting point of the orbit) and other tracing the movement of the sphere as it goes round the Sun. Any help/idea what can I do?
